The Wood element parallels the season of spring and represents the rising sun, the eastern direction, tall cylindrical shapes, and the color green. It corresponds to the liver, medicine, diseases, and the senses of sight and hearing. Wood element people renew their strength in the morning hours and are invigorated by the wind. The feng shui direction assigned to the Wood element is East, representing family, creativity, relationships, and the slender, cylindrical forms of columns and towers.

The Wood element represents the period from birth to age 12, a time of rapid mental and physical development, imagination, creativity, simplicity, and compassion. Like the great sequoia tree, the nature of Wood is to move upward, spread outward, and expand toward the light. Its temperate nature is concerned with establishing goodwill, furthering the arts, and pursuing beauty.

Wood element people have high-minded values and believe in the dignity of every human being. They understand the value of teamwork and excel in organizing extensive and complex projects. Like their daymaster element, those with a Wood daymaster know how to expand, achieve cooperation, and persuade others. They are progressive in their thinking and futuristic in their goals. The Wood element endows you with a natural presence and sense of propriety; however, Wood is also flammable and bestows a touchy temper. This is why the emotion associated with Wood is anger. The Wood element blesses you with idealism, imagination, a love of family, and many artistic gifts. It is closely tied to the liver and gallbladder, and the senses of sight and hearing.
